Check Out Hope's Improvement!

BEFORE:

NOW:

Happy New Year from NJBR and Hope: One of our 2008 special rescues.

New Jersey Boxer Rescue would like to thank each and every one of our supporters who made it possible for Hope and our other dogs to receive the care they needed this past year. Without your support and donations the NJBR dogs wouldn’t have a chance at a better life.

We would like to especially thank Dr. Harriet Lederman, veterinarian and owner of Bergen Animal Hospital in performing Hopey's surgery. Without Dr. Lederman’s combined compassion and medical expertise for Hopey's unique and complex dental surgery, which other vets were apprehensive to even perform, this story may have a much different ending. Thank you Dr. Lederman for all you did and for giving Hopey quality of life.

Now without further a due it's with great joy we introduce to you the "new" Hopey.

What a fabulous dog she has become. We always say if you could only meet her you could truly appreciate her beautiful soulful personality. She has blossomed into a beautiful 65 pound girl. She is all the great things we know and love about boxers. Hopey is a boxer in every sense of the word. She’s a lap boxer, a buggy boxer, a chow hound boxer, and most of all a big ol love bug boxer. She has yet to meet a dog or person she didn’t like. Her trust for people is so typical for the boxer breed considering all the bad things that have surely been done to her. She has even enjoyed taking trips to a local nursing home to cheer up the older folks.

You’ll also be happy to know Hopey’s story gets better. Hopey has found her forever home and now enjoys the spoiled life every boxer should have.

We hope you have enjoyed this happy ending as much as we did. Hopey is and always will be an inspiration to all of us at NJBR.

HOPE:

You came into our lives on a very dark night,

You had soulful eyes with a flicker of light.

Our eyes filled with tears for you were so frail,

You looked back unknowing and wagged your long tail.

The first Vet uncertain if you would survive,

Said to love you & feed you, see if you'd thrive.

A kind person took you & feared you would die,

Saw bones & the tumors and started to cry.

She loved you and fed you and somehow you grew!

She called one day saying....’now what to do?’

We found a Vet willing to help with your mouth,

She was up north and you were down south.

It didn't matter; they drove the long trip,

They called and sent emails to make it go quick.

We waited to hear how the surgery went,

Hours and hours of waiting were spent.

The Vet called to say the surgery went great,

The tumors removed and now for the wait.

We waited for weeks wondering how they would be,

If you would have cancer or be cancer free.

The results came back...you were in the clear,

No cancer was found...we again shed a tear.

The story is told again and again,

Of a dog named Hope who was way back when....

A thin little boxer with a mass on her mouth,

To be put in a gas chamber by someone down south.

She rode in a truck with lots of sad dogs,

And never gave up despite all the odds.

She brought hope to us all, this lost little stray,

For believing in miracles from the first day.
